Schedule of Events:
A.M. - Build your cars & decorate sites: we will have some cardboard for car construction. We will have some crayons and markers available to use at the dance hall. If possible bring your own construction materials. Rules are to follow below. Enter your team at the store.
1:00 P.M. - Car judging contest- at the pavilion, all cars entered must be at the dance hall at this time.
1:30 P.M. - Pre race tech inspection begins at the softball diamond. Cars and drivers must pass tech before being allowed to race.
2:00 P.M.?- Racing starts at the race course set up at the activity field
4:00 P.M.?- Tire changing contest, set up near flag pole.
7:00 P.M. Site Decoration judging- winners announced Sunday morning at the store
8:00 P.M. - Wagon ride around park.
Rules:
Site decoration: Decorate your site with any race paraphernalia, lights, signs, flags, posters etc. To be judged. Prizes will be awarded.
Car building: To be constructed of cardboard or heavy paper board, some wood can be used for bracing. Must have two sides, front and rear optional, crayons, paint and markers can be used to decorate. You may use some racing decals if you have them. No professionally done graphics or paint jobs. You may copy a known design or do your own. (This is a family and team participation event. There are no age divisions.) Cars should be approximately 2 feet high, 2 ½ to 3' wide and 4' long(please look at sample pictures, this is a guide line only. Remember the driver will have to wear the car if the team is going to race it.
Prizes will be awarded based on craftsmanship and originality.
Tire changing contest: Two person team. Must be over 16 to participate. $5.00 entry fee per team. Cash prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. All must sign a release. If under 18 parents must sign the release. All competitors assume the risk for any injury incurred.
One person is tire carrier; one is the air gun operator. Teams may switch, but must pay a separate entry fee for another run.
The car will be on jack stands, no car lifting. Strictly tire changing.
It will be a timed event, one team at a time. There will be a starting line. The stop watch will start when the first person crosses the start line and stop when the last person comes back across the same line.
We will not be gluing the lug nuts to the wheels; your tire carrier will have three extra lug nuts. You will be using a high speed air gun and a spring loaded pit socket.
Penalties will be assessed for missing lug nuts: 10 seconds each. Loose lug nut penalty will be 5 seconds for each.
In the event of a tie in time, there will be a run off.
Safety glasses will be mandatory, competitors should wear gloves and the tire changer should wear knee pads. We will have a couple pair of knee pads and glasses to loan out.
Race Rules: There will be 3 divisions. 12 & under drivers, 13 to 19 drivers, & adult drivers. You need a three person crew (max). The crew can be of different ages. A car can be entered in more than one age division, but may only be used by one driver per age group. The driver must have lace up tennis shoes, and a spare set. (No Velcro or slip on shoes allowed). If there are enough cars there will be heat races, to qualify for the main event.
It will be a standing start race, with racers starting side by side, there will be cones set out to outline the track, cutting corners will call for disqualification, racers will start and stop at the finish line. After one lap all racers will be required to pit, (pit stop rules defined below) and then run another lap.. Intentional crashing of another car will result in disqualification. The first to cross the finish line is the winner.
Pit stop rules: Be courteous to other drivers, you must enter your designated pit area, watch for your crew. Do not block other cars pit area. Your crew must change your tires (shoes) and tie them properly. They must clean your windshield (wash your face with a wet rag) You must re-fuel. (Drink a beverage) Wilderness will provide sealed bottled water. Under 12: juice boxes will be provided. Drivers will get their beverage from the pit judge and return the container to the pit judge, upon emptying. After completing these tasks, you may leave your pit to complete the second lap.
There will be a pit judge assigned to each team. Penalties will be assessed for not completing your pit properly. They will hold you in pit until shoes are tied properly and the windshield has been cleaned. A 15 second hold penalty will be enforced after other tasks are completed for spilling too much of your fuel, or not emptying the container. A fifteen second penalty will be assessed for being out of your pit area or blocking another pit area.
